Program Overview:

HR Basics is a program designed by NEHRA for individuals who want or may need to learn more about the key elements of human resources management.

• You may be interested if you are new to the field and are interested in finding out more about human resources.

• You may also be interested if you have been given a new or expanded responsibility for some component of your company's human resource management and you need to get some basic information.

The program is meant to provide participants with access to articles; a book list; a glossary of HR terms, links to important websites, as well as a series of 6 two-hour morning classes at the NEHRA office.   The program will be offered four times each year.


*Two classes will be held each month, held from September to November 2012:

• September 5 - Introduction to the HR Profession
  Learn the definition of human resources management, the roles and responsibilities of HR professionals, and how strategic planning and HR planning fit together.
  

• September 19 - Employment Law Basics
  Learn the key pieces of federal, state and local legislation with which an organization must comply.

• October 3 - Hiring: Who, What, Where & How
  Learn how to evaluate recruiting methods and their effectiveness, explain how the selection process works, and learn how to analyze and evaluate job applicants.

• October 17 - Compensation and Benefits
  Learn the basic elements of a total compensation system, including understanding the role of base pay, incentives, and differentials in employee compensation.  Take a look at benefits commonly offered by employers.

• October 31 - Employee Relations
  Learn the basics of maintaining employer-employee relationships that contribute to satisfactory productivity, motivation, and morale.   Learn how to prevent and resolve problems involving individuals which arise out of or affect work situations.

• November 14 - Talent Management
  This class will cover the processes used to identify, encourage, measure, evaluate, improve and reward employee performance.  Learn common appraisal processes and systems, as well as common appraisal errors.  Learn how to conduct effective disciplinary meetings and legal issues to consider during employee terminations.
